During 2010 Twitter and Facebook have continued to grow and in doing so have become part of many of our lives. Most of you reading this blog post probably ended up here after clicking on a tweet on Twitter or a link on your Facebook news feed. I log in to both Facebook and Twitter nearly everyday, and looking at this social demographics infographic by Digital Surgeons, it looks like I’m not the only one!
Over 40% of Facebook users log in everyday while less than 30% of Twitter users log in everyday. I guess we’re not as addicted to Twitter as we are to Facebook. But only 12% of Facebook users update their status everyday compared with the 52% of Twitter users that post daily status updates. I guess it makes sense as the only action Twitter users can really perform is a status update where as Facebook users can play games and interact in numerous ways with their friends. Have a look at the statistics in more detail below and let me know what conclusions you come to.
I love a good infographic.
It surprises me the most to see that Twitter is nearly on the same awareness level as Facebook, even with hundreds of fewer users.
Seeing that Twitter has a large percentage of its users in or graduated from college is quite interesting too – although Facebook’s stats may be slightly skewed because of such a large range of age groups that haven’t had the chance to get to college yet.
The very high awareness level of Twitter also surprised me a bit. I expected everyone to know about Facebook but I thought that Twitter mainly sat in the realm of web savvy marketers. I guess it has been in the press quite a bit especially with more and more celebrities using Twitter these days.
